Mark Srednicki

Biography

Prof. Srednicki received his B.Eng. in Applied and Engineering Physics from Cornell University in 1977 and his Ph.D. in Physics from Stanford University in 1980. He then held postdoctoral positions at Princeton University and the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) before joining the UCSB faculty in 1983. His early career work was focused on elementary particle physics beyond the Standard Model and its possible implications for astrophysics and cosmology. He is the author of a textbook on the mathematical methods of this subject, Quantum Field Theory, published by Cambridge University Press in 2007. More recently his research has focused on the properties of quantum many-body systems and the foundations of statistical mechanics; his "eigenstate thermalization hypothesis" has been widely influential in the field.
